The Nautical Institute is the world’s leading international professional body for qualified mariners. Through its Constitution, the Council of The Nautical Institute is directed to ‘provide the strongest possible professional focus, dedicated to improving standards of those in control of seagoing craft, while maintaining the Institute as an international centre of nautical excellence.’
Founded in 1972, it is a thriving international professional body for qualified mariners, with 40 branches worldwide and some 7,000 members in over 110 countries.
Dating back to 1947, the Royal Institute of Navigation, or “RIN”, is world-renowned, with membership spanning 60 countries and all continents.
RIN’s activities cover the full breadth of navigation and precise timing, spanning land, sea, air and space and includes animal navigation, human cognition, navigable cities and buildings and all domains of the practice of navigation.
The Honourable Company of Master Mariners (HCMM)
Originally founded in 1926, the Honourable Company of Master Mariners encourages and maintains a high and honourable standard of ability and professional conduct in the officers of the British Merchant Navy, promotes and maintains efficient and friendly cooperation between the Merchant Navy and the Royal Navy, and advises and consults on matters related to the Merchant Navy.

Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST)
Founded in 1889, IMarEST is the first Institute to bring together marine engineers, scientists and technologists into one international multi-disciplinary professional body.
The institute supports your career development and lifelong learning, offering you the opportunity to gain recognition for your skills and experience through membership and professional registration.

The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA)
With a history dating back to 1860, RINA is an internationally renowned professional institution whose members are involved at all levels in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of marine vessels and structures.
Members of RINA are widely represented in industry, universities and colleges, and maritime organisations in over ninety countries.
Their Publications include magazines, transactions, conference proceedings, news and feature articles.
International Association of Maritime Institutions (IAMI)
Founded in 1983, IAMI is primarily an association of colleges and other organisations involved in providing education and training for personnel involved in the Merchant Navy, Towing and Fishing Industries, though its Members and Associate Members also serve the wider maritime industry and the offshore industry to varying degrees.
Based in the UK, IAMI includes in its membership all of the major providers of courses leading to statutory Department of Transport certification as well as the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology and the Nautical Institute.
Professional Yachting Association (PYA)
The PYA is a non-profit association which was founded in 1991, and exists primarily to represent the interests of professional yacht crew around the world.
With members from over 90 countries worldwide, the PYA offers its members a range of bespoke products and services and provides practical tools and up to date advice to today’s professional yacht crew.
Royal Yachting Association (RYA)
Founded in 1875, the RYA is the UK’s national body for all forms of boating, including dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sports boats, powerboat racing, windsurfing, canal and river boat cruising, and personal watercraft.
With over 100,000 members, RYA membership offers a range of benefits, from advice and support to exclusive offers and discounts.
